My gentle friend,

Generous to a fault,

When Mum and I came

To your welcoming snug home

You'd never let us leave

Without a ‘little something'.

Listening as you and Mum shared childhood days –

Yours in the country - hers in the town,

The years retreated

To lanes and fields, parks and seaside trips;

Sights, sounds and characters

Brought to life by memories

So well recalled.

Your mutual love of nature

And of poetry brought you closer still.

I'll always remember

How kindness radiated from you

Like the sun's rays,

Warming everyone you knew.
